IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ART!
Ninth Annual ART ALL NIGHT Lawrenceville
April 29-30, 2006

PITTSBURGH, PA -- On a Saturday afternoon last April, eight hundred and seventy-eight individual artists braved a startling blast of late wintry weather to converge upon an abandoned steel mill in Lawrenceville, each with a single piece of their artwork in hand. Why? Because in just a few years ART ALL NIGHT LAWRENCEVILLE has emerged as one of Pittsburgh's most prominent and beloved community events, and it keeps growing by leaps and bounds. Over 7,000 guests attended the 24-hour art show and celebration in 2005. Returning for its ninth year, ART ALL NIGHT LAWRENCEVILLE will spring to life again on April 29-30, 2006. A former plant warehouse at 3618 Penn Avenue serves as this year's venue. Admission is FREE and the event is open to the public from 6 p.m. (April 29) through 2 p.m. (April 30).

ART ALL NIGHT LAWRENCEVILLE offers every artist of any skill level the opportunity to show one piece of artwork in the exhibit: no fees, no jury, no censorship. The artists' registration and drop-off period is 2–5 p.m., Saturday, April 30.

"We love that Lawrenceville is the center of this thing that deepens its roots each year as a major Pittsburgh happening," says 2006 event coordinator, David Leone. He believes the key to the event's success is the purity of its core mission to promote and celebrate creative expression in all walks of life. "It's really all about the art and the performances," he says, "people are just constantly amazed by the quality and ingenuity, the complexity and range and beauty of the work they see at this show. That's what they come back for."

From the ten-year-old artist who has been participating every year since she was three to established professionals who've achieved national recognition, increasing numbers of artists flock to have work included each year. "It's a rare opportunity," Leone observes, "for anyone to have their work in a show, and for more experienced artists to have work seen in the context of a massive community celebration, which is very different than people strolling through galleries mostly in isolation."

The exhibit also features live music and theater, interactive arts activities for children and adults, performance artists, poetry and fiction readings, and more. WYEP-FM will broadcast live from the event throughout the night.

ART ALL NIGHT LAWRENCEVILLE is an entirely independent, non-profit event organized and run by an all-volunteer committee and supported by the generous donations of local businesses and organizations and voluntary attendee contributions. This year’s sponsors include Lawrenceville Corporation, WYEP-FM, and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. ART ALL NIGHT LAWRENCEVILLE 2006 is also made possible in part through a grant from the PA Partners in the Arts program of the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts.
